Shabby at Heart

by Cheryl Duncan

As a child we made frequent family visits to my Aunt Audrey & Uncle Orin’s. I can still hear the sound of the screen door opening and the creek in the back porch floor. There was always an aroma coming from the kitchen to let us know we had a wonderful dinner waiting for us! We spent many hours  in the big country kitchen of this great home!

The mixture of furniture from Mission to Victorian filled the house. No two chairs around the kitchen table were alike. Today’s term “Shabby” definitely fit the style of their home.

I find a certain calmness in the Shabby style because it brings back such fond memory of my childhood. Park Hill Collection has done a great job of recreating objects of the simple life. A life I wish I could visit again! It is their philosophy that the most wonderful things are usually found in the most humble places.
